Karen C. Kemper, M.D.

Board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Karen Kemper has practiced pediatric medicine for over 23 years. She received her medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch – Galveston and completed her residency in pediatrics at Scott & White, Temple.
Dr. Kemper chose to be a pediatrician because she believes “children are our most precious possession.” As a mother of four and grandmother of five, Dr. Kemper identifies with mothers who are worried about their sick children. “I believe I can comfort patients and their parents and help alleviate their fears.”

Believing it is vitally important to advocate for her patients, Dr. Kemper is active in the Texas Medical Association, serving as a delegate for more than 18 years. She was appointed to the Child and Adolescent Health Committee and eventually co-chaired that committee. She is a member of the Texas Pediatric Society and has served on the Committee on Children with Disabilities, the Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect. She sits on the McLennan County Medical Society Board and was the first woman president of the Society in 2006. Serving as a Community Faculty physician for the East Texas Area Health Education Center, she sponsors UTMB medical students in the third year for their ambulatory pediatric clerkships in her office. Dr. Kemper has made many television appearances and given many lectures on medical topics.

She regularly receives the American Medical Association’s Physician Recognition Award for Continuing Medical Education. Well liked by her patients and families, she has been voted “Best Pediatrician” in the Wacoan magazine (2005, 2006, and 2008).

Dr. Kemper and her husband, Martin, an electrician and a private pilot, have been happily married for 40 years. They are members of Calvary Baptist church in Waco, where Martin has served as a deacon. Karen and Martin have four adult children: Kelley, Grant, Ross, and Annaliese. Kelley Messer, an attorney in Abilene, is raising a family with her husband, Jeff. They have three children: Kathlyn, Melia and Reid. Grant Kemper, an Aerospace Engineer, is working at L-3 in Waco. Ross Kemper, a pilot, lives in Waco with his wife Bridgette and their twin sons, Ryland and Sterling. Annaliese Scoggin, a wildlife biologist for the Texas Parks and Wildlife, resides in Midland with her husband, Will. In addition to spending time with her family, Dr. Kemper enjoys snow skiing, traveling, flying with Martin in his plane, and gardening.
